Abel Trindade
Psychologist - Behaviour Support Practitioner
Abel is an experienced psychologist with a passion for amplifying the voices of children, people with disability, families, and marginalised communities. He has a special interest in working with neurodiverse people and those with co-occurring mental health conditions. With a background in psychology, education, and the community services and experience leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple states, Abel takes a holistic and person-centred approach to the services he delivers.
Abel believes that people, including children and young people, do the best they can with the skills and resources they have. He focuses on recognising how people communicate, relate to each other, and what their needs are, including sensory and safety needs, to reduce the need for unsafe behaviours and restrictive practices. Abel takes a collaborative, systems-based approach in working with families, service providers, medical and allied health teams, and other members of a person's support network to build capacity and reimagine what is possible for people with disability.
Abel has extensive additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, developmental trauma, implementation science, and service improvement. He has qualifications in psychology, teaching, developmental trauma, business, and social change and development.
